The Associate Vestry invites you and the community to St. James' annual Summer Sounds. Back by popular demand, Chris Leblanc will be there to entertain with rich bluesy music and pay homage to some of his greatest influences, including The Rolling Stones, Muddy Waters, and every juke joint in between.
Doors open and food served at 6 p.m. Music begins at 6:30 p.m.

Rise, Heart: A Concert Celebrating Ralph Vaughan Williams |

The combined choirs of St. James Episcopal Church and First United Methodist Church, Baton Rouge will collaborate on a concert celebrating the 150th anniversary of the birth of one of the most pivotal composers of the 20th century church music, Ralph Vaughan Williams.
Joined by renowned baritone Dr. Brandon Hendrickson, the choirs will celebrate Vaughan Williams' legacy through anthems, hymns, and organ works showcasing the genius of this giant of western music. The program will include the sublime Five Mystical Songs, two works composed for the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II, and other inspiring works of sacred music.
Lamar Drummonds, Director of Music and Worship, First United Methodist Church; Shannon Gallier, Director of Music, St. James Episcopal Church; and Holden Miller, Associate Director of Music and Organist, First United Methodist Church, will lead the concert.
Assisting will be Matthew Vangjel, Jena Vangjel, and Francisco Ballesta Sayas, trumpet; Seth Orgel, horn; Hana Beloglavec, trombone; Charles Goodman, tuba; Chase Gillett, timpani.
Free and open to the public in the Sanctuary of First United Methodist Church, nursery provided. |

LENTEN COMPLINE
Join the St. James Choir for sung Compline for the season of Lent. Compline, with roots in the monastic tradition, is a beautiful, quiet service with meditative music and chant. The service will include a performance of Pergolesi's beautiful "Stabat Mater," accompanied by members of the Baton Rouge Symphony
Orchestra.
This event is free and open to the public.
The offering at Compline will benefit the Music Ministry's 2025 Worcester residency. |

This Baton Rouge Lenten tradition started in 1951 and has grown into a hallmark event the city looks forward to every year. Hundreds of volunteers serve thousands of bowls of delicious gumbo to the city, raising money for church ministries and outreach, and bringing the greater Baton Rouge community together for food and fellowship. |

The Choirs of St. James will sing through the entire Hymnal 1982 (the official Hymnal of the Episcopal Church), which includes 720 hymns. Working over two days, the choirs will take shifts singing one verse per hymn. Attendees have the option to request an entire hymn be sung for $50 by ringing a bell in the nave to alert the organist. |

Evensong, one of the crown jewels of our tradition, is an evening service filled with sung prayer, candles, chant, and timeless music.
Each service is preceded by a half-hour organ recital beginning at 4:30 p.m., with the service beginning at 5 p.m. All events are free, open to the public, and will be followed by a reception. The offering of these services goes toward the Choirs' Worcester Residency.
St. James presents Choral Evensong in observance of the Conversion of St. Paul, with a pre-service organ recital performed by Director of Music Shannon Gallier, on January 26.
The community is invited to join us as the St. James Choir offers music of Handel, Peter Aston, and Herbert Howells. |
