Desert Noises is an indie band that originally hails from Provo, Utah. Their current lineup is made up of Kyle Henderson, Brennan Allen and Tyler Osmond (yes, from that Osond family!). Founded more than a decade ago, the band has released two albums and two EPs. The band moved to Nashville five years back and are currently touring the South. "Juice" has a new CD and the Dragon is proud to host the CD release party for that disc. The album was recorded and produced by Clay Parker with graphics by Jodi James. So it follows that Clay and Jodi will open the show AND play a bit with Steve. This will be a special night as we return to the Red Dragon from a nearly four month break in the action.

It focuses on Joan's early years....1958-1960 in New York. Nina will be doing a tribute show in support of the new record. Along with songs that Joan made famous, Nina will also feature a couple of her own songs that fit the subject matter. The Red Dragon is a 501 (c) 3 non profit corporation and we do one major fundraiser each year. We call it a "PALOOZA" and it features many of the finest Louisiana acts, all playing to benefit the lil ole Dragon. There are no set prices for the evening.....all donations are GREATLY APPRECIATED and TAX DEDUCTIBLE. We will post a schedule as things start to fall into place. Keith began playing music professionally as a teenager. In school, he made the Texas All-State Orchestra four times and later earned a degree in music from the University of Houston. With his classical training, he earned a position with the Houston Symphony Orchestra playing acoustic upright bass. Keith put himself through college playing in local clubs and that led to his fortuitous meeting with Ezra. Meanwhile, Ezra attended McLennan Community College in Waco, Texas on a basketball scholarship. After one year, he decided to leave college and pursue his true love, playing music. The two met in Houston in 1976. Ezra played in a band called St. Elmo’s Fire which happened to be one of Keith’s favorite bands. Both men’s lives forever changed when Keith found himself without a job during a symphony union lockout and the bass player for St. Elmo’s Fire quit. The band hired Keith to be their bassist and the two men became fast friends. When St. Elmo’s dissolved in 1979, Trout Fishing in America (named for Keith’s love of Richard Brautigan’s writing and Ezra’s love of fishing) was officially born.
Trout Fishing in America was in the first wave of artist owned labels (Trout Records) to successfully record and market their own music. Drawing inspiration from childhoods spent listening to top-40 AM radio, the two songwriters seasoned their music with stylings from rock and roll, blues, folk, country, bluegrass, funk, Latin, and reggae…whatever sound would best bring out the flavor of the lyrics they wrote. Their recordings have garnered three National Indie Awards, multiple Parents Choice and NAPPA Gold awards, the American Library Award, as well as four Grammy nominations. To date, they have released 26 albums, the most recent of which is “Live At The Epic Theater”.
Since the beginning, Keith and Ezra have played shows for audiences of all ages in all sorts of venues. Trout’s broad appeal comes from their ability to connect with whoever is in the audience and their ability to create a full, rich sound that belies the fact that only two instruments are being played. In addition to their performances, they also conduct songwriting workshops for teachers and students, focusing on the premise that to be able to write a song, you must first have an idea. Keith encourages the participants to collaborate on lyrics while Ezra listens in the background, noodling out a melody on guitar. By the end of the hour, the group has a rough version of the new song. Several workshop songs have been so good that they have found a place on a Trout album.
Trout Fishing in America has been on the Americana scene for over four decades now. The duo consists of Keith and Ezra on bass and guitar. It is not unusual for three or four generations of a family to show up at a Trout performance and this is a point of pride for both Keith and Ezra. The Louisiana Americana and Folk Society is a non profit corporation operating as The Red Dragon Listening Room. We have been around for over 20 years now and we do one big fundraiser every year. We call it a PALOOZA. This year will be A/C Palooza, as we are hoping to fund a new AC unit, along with other necessary expenses like utilities, repairs, online advertising, taxes, upkeep, sound needs, etc. Yeah, it is expensive to run the place, especially in a 60 to 70 year old building! Our Palooza will feature numerous Louisiana artists donating their services to help us out. I'll add a schedule as the date approaches. I hope you will join us for the concert. It will be an all day affair and just might involve a jambalaya dinner! Abe Partridge is a heralded musician, singer/songwriter, visual artist, and podcaster based in Mobile, Alabama. His 2018 debut, Cotton Fields and Blood For Days earned him rave reviews, with Tony Paris saying in The Bitter Southerner: "He plays guitar the same way he writes lyrics, bashing the strings with abandon until they are just about to come loose, then beautifully picking the notes until every last word falls into place. More to the point, Partridge writes to make you sit up and think. He wants to jar your reality. Sometimes, his lyrics are sly and subtle. Sometimes they come at you with a roar and thunder, as if the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse were approaching, and the heavens were opening up to herald a warning."
Since the release of his debut, Partridge has toured relentlessly, including several tours of the Netherlands and the U.K. developing a reputation for moving, passionate, and sometimes comedic, performances at prestigious songwriter festivals such as 30A Songwriters Festival, Frank Brown Songwriters Festival, and Americanafest. He is a regular at the Bluebird Café in Nashville and Eddie’s Attic in Decatur. He has performed on the syndicated radio programs, Mountain Stage and Woodsongs Old Time Radio Hour. He has shared the stage with Morgan Wade, Paul Thorn, Steve Poltz, Dan Bern, Jerry Joseph, Glen Phillips (Toad The Wet Sprocket), Tommy Stinson, Shawn Mullins, John Fullbright, and more.
Most recently, Partridge and co-producer Ferrill Gibbs released the Alabama Astronaut podcast, where they explore songs previously undocumented at churches in Appalachia. The podcast finds Partridge chatting with Holiness preachers and looking into the practice of snake handling. It was in the Top Ten documentary podcasts on Apple Podcasts within days of its release and now has over 40k downloads and a 4.9-star rating.
When Partridge is not writing or touring, he is also a highly acclaimed visual artist. His paintings, primarily acrylic on tarred board and watercolors, now hang in art galleries around the southeast and in the private collections of Tyler Childers, Mike Wolfe (American Pickers), Rick Hirsch (Wet Willie), and Tommy Prine. His artwork was featured in Stephen King’s 2019 sequel to The Shining - Dr. Sleep. He painted the cover art for Charlie Parr’s, Last Of The Better Days Ahead (Smithsonian Folkways). In November of 2022, Partridge released the EP Alabama Skies on Baldwin Co. Public Records label which includes "Abe Partridge’s 403d Freakout". Partridge told Songfacts the story behind the song: " 'Abe Partridge's 403d Freakout' was a song I wrote in about 20 minutes. It took me two weeks to make it rhyme, and then it took me about six months to learn it. I just sat and wrote a couple of pages of thoughts as they came to me. It was my attempt at describing my thoughts chronologically as they sometimes occur in my head before I filter them. It is those thoughts that I often have if I allow myself to mentally wander."
Partridge's exhibit With Signs Following was on exhibition at the Alabama Contemporary Art Center in Mobile, AL from January 13 - May 20 of 2023 and is expected to travel to other city contemporary art centers in the next few years. His full-length studio album, Love In The Dark, on BCPR label, was released on May 12, 2023. |

Hailing from Austin, Texas by way of West Point, Mississippi, critically acclaimed Americana and roots-rock/pop singer, songwriter, and producer, JM Stevens returns three years after his well-received solo debut, Invisible Lines. Releasing in April 2024, the 10-song Nowhere to Land is an overall mellower, more vulnerable record than its predecessor, though still speckled with some up-tempo rockers. It’s a thoughtful album further set apart by Stevens’ nuanced songcraft, intimate vocals, and organic production.
DittyTV praised Stevens as, “In that sweet spot of pop-rock represented by guys like Bruce Springsteen, Jackson Browne, John Cafferty, Tom Petty, [and] Don Henley,” while The Big Takeover noted how his “Supremely tasteful arrangements keep excess far at bay.”
From contemplative, optimistic opener “Dry Creek” and the more jaunty but no less questioning title track, it’s a record that preserves the raw emotions of Stevens’ songcraft through admirably restrained production. “I wanted to keep it real open,” he said. “And it sometimes sounds bigger that way, because there’s more space to sink into, more room to breathe.”
Pangs of love, loss and loneliness punctuate Nowhere to Land’s bouts of doubt, jealousy, and recurring hope. Songs search for that old spark as lovers grow apart but often, tempered by empathy, resolve into acceptance and letting go. “After the Storm” came to Stevens almost fully formed while out running in the wake of Texas’ infamous 2021 ice storm, while fellow standout “Cherry Sunburst” takes doing whatever it took to acquire a coveted guitar as a metaphor for losing our senses in all manner of other situations.
