In 1894, on a train trip to New Orleans, a young Italian immigrant named Lawrence Nobile, passed through Lutcher, a busy logging town, where virgin cypress lumber was being harvested. He recognized a promising business opportunity to serve the thousands of men who made their homes in camps located deep in the Louisiana cypress forest.
Within a year, Nobile's was established as a place where the men could meet, get a cold beer or a good drink, shoot pool, play cards and have a good time. Above the bar were rooms for boarders, salesmen, and professional gamblers.
Since the lumber boom days, Nobile's provided other services to the community. A coffee house, barber shop, shoe shine stand, and doctor's office were all located in the building and kept Nobile's favorite meeting place.
Nobile's continues its long history of hospitality even today. The beautiful Victorian mahogany bar which greets restaurant customers and the interesting collectables bring back the feeling of those days when the cypress loggers raised their glasses and enjoyed a respite from their labor.
